Tests reveal no structural damage for Weaver
Jered Weaver has no structural damage in the left hip, according to Angels manager Mike Scioscia.
The injury - determined to be left hip inflammation - caused the Angels to place him on the 15-day disabled list with hip on Sunday. Test results Monday revealed a measure of good news for the Angels.
"Weave had some tests. Preliminary reports say everything is functional," Scioscia said. "There's no structural things that are there. He won't pick up a ball for five days. We'll see where he is and move forward from there."
There's still no timetable on a return for Weaver. The Angels don't need another starter this week since Thursday is an off day.
Weaver, who is in his 10th season with the Angels and won 18 games last year, went on the disabled list for just the fourth time in his career.
His season has been a mixed bag with a good stretch bookended by a couple of sluggish stretches. He started the year 0-4, then won four of his next five starts. He's since lost his last four starts.
Scioscia believes Weaver can regain his form from last season.
"... He pitched really well and had really good stuff," Scioscia said of Weaver's 2014 season. "I don't feel he's that far removed from that. We've even seen glimpses of it this year, that string where he won four games. His stuff was crisper no doubt. I have a lot of confidence we'll see him get better as we move forward. Right now, there's no doubt about trying to exhale a little bit and getting him back to where he needs to be."
