A promising 17-year-old female ski jumper from Italy has died suddenly after collapsing in her hotel room.
The Italian Winter Sports Federation says that Simona Senoner died Friday in Schonach, Germany, where she was competing in a Continental Cup meet. She was airlifted to a local hospital after being discovered by her roommate, but she was declared dead upon arrival. No cause of death was given.
Senoner finished 10th in the 2008 junior worlds.
All Italian winter sports athletes were wearing black armbands Saturday to mourn Senoner.
