Tavon Austin suddenly has many new 'relatives'

The Rams rookie is learning a harsh truth: When you become an NFL player (especially a first-round pick), people start coming out of the woodwork expecting money. “Everybody expects a lot of things from you as far as money,” Austin told the Rams’ website (via Pro Football Talk). “Everybody wants to be around you. My phone doesn’t stop ringing now. It feels like they’re counting my bank account now. So that’s probably the hardest thing for me right now, just people.” OK, Tavon, let's practice a new word that should become a staple for you from here on out: NO. That's right, NO. When people come asking for money, say NO. When "relatives" appear out of the ether and just wanna spend some time with you, say NO and run for the hills. “I’ve got a lot of cousins now,” Austin said. “The whole [city of] Baltimore is my cousin now. We’re going to just try to keep focused and let my mother and all of them handle it.” Letting your mother handle it also sends up some red flags. As long as she's dealing with demanding relatives, that's fine. Let's hope she's not handling your finances, too. Get a business manager for that. Welcome to the NFL, Tavon. Please don't get hurt.
