Sun Devils beat Wildcats in volleyball

TEMPE, Ariz. – Arizona State (20-13, 9-11 Pac-12), defeated in-state rival Arizona (16-15, 8-12 Pac-12) 3-1 in Pac-12 volleyball on Friday night at Wells Fargo Arena. Arizona won the first set 25-13 before ASU battled back to win the next three, 25-17, 27-25, 25-19.
 
ASU took control in the second set with seven consecutive points to break a 12-all tie. Macey Gardner had five kills in the set en route to upping her season total to 562 -- second in ASU's record book to Amanda Burbridge's 599.

Arizona led 18-16 in the decisive fourth set was tied at 18 before the Sun Devils rattled off nine of the last 10 points.

ASU earned half a point in the Territorial Cup standings with a split of the season series. Erica Wilson led the Sun Devils with 17 kills, followed by Gardner’s 14 and Whitney Follette’s 10. Stephanie Preach had 17 digs, and Alexis Pinson contributed eight blocks.

Arizona was led by Madi Kingdon, who tallied 17 kills and 12 digs for her 13th double-double of the season. Halli Amaro had 11 kills and eight blocks, while Ronni Lewis had a career-high 23 digs.

ASU’s 20 wins are the most for the program since 1993.
