Stephen Jones: I hope former Cowboys DE DeMarcus Ware gets to Super Bowl
ARLINGTON - Five months ago, the Dallas Cowboys made the difficult decision to cut the franchise's all-time sacks leader.
Dallas released defensive end DeMarcus Ware, saving $7.4 million in salary cap space. The seven-time Pro Bowler signed a three-year, $30 million deal with Denver a day later.
Although it's highly unlikely Ware will be on the field, his Broncos play in AT&T Stadium Thursday night.
Cowboys chief operating officer Stephen Jones acknowledged Monday that it will be difficult to see the former Cowboy wearing blue and orange.
"That's hard to hindsight because obviously he was paid well," Jones said when asked to look back at the move. "A little bit of that is our issue. We had gotten pretty far on down the road on having real cap issues, so we had to probably make a tougher decision than the Broncos, who were fresh out of a Super Bowl [appearance] thinking, 'Hey, maybe one player and we get it cranked up.'
"A little different situation, but difficult. It's going to be strange. It'll be hard, it'll be difficult, but at the same time, I hope it all goes well. I hope he gets to the Super Bowl."

"You know what I hope," Jones said with a chuckle. "But then you'll all say I'm predicting the Super Bowl. But I hope he gets to it, for sure."
