Korie Lucious has been dismissed from the Michigan State basketball team for the remainder of the season, coach Tom Izzo announced late Tuesday night.
About an hour before MSU made the announcement, Lucious wrote in a message on Twitter, "Man did I really mess up this time . . . off 2 the gym I go."
"Unfortunately, Korie Lucious displayed conduct detrimental to the program," Izzo said in a statement. "My focus is on this team for the remainder of the season."
Lucious, a junior guard from Milwaukee, said in the statement, "I didn't live up to the standards of the program. Unfortunately, I let my teammates, my coaches and myself down, and wish them the best for the rest of the season."
Lucious was charged with drunken driving last summer, when he was still 20 years old, and served a two-game suspension early this season.
Lucious, who was so impressive during last year's Final Four run, has been in a dreadful shooting slump. He is averaging 6.5 points while shooting 31.2 percent from the field and 28.4 percent (23 of 81) from 3-point range.
A news release said the university and the basketball program will have no further comment on the issue.
The Spartans, who are 12-7 overall, 4-3 in the Big Ten, host rival Michigan on Thursday night at the Breslin Center in East Lansing.
