Source: UAB fires basketball coach Mike Davis
MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- A person with familiar with the decision
says UAB has fired basketball coach Mike Davis after six seasons.
The person spoke to The Associated Press
on condition of anonymity because no announcement has been made. UAB
scheduled a news conference Friday afternoon "regarding the men's
basketball program."
The Birmingham News first reported the firing.
Davis led the Blazers to the NCAA
tournament for the first time during the 2010-11 season and their first
Conference USA regular season title, earning the former Indiana coach
league coach of the year honors.
UAB fell to 15-16 last season and lost
six of its first seven games. Davis posted a 122-73 record and had one
year remaining on his $625,000-a-year contract.
Davis did not immediately respond to a text message from AP.
