Shabazz Napier, the former UConn guard and newest member of the Miami Heat, made headlines when he told reporters he went to bed hungry some nights.
SMU defensive back Horace Richardson has some similar complaints. He took to Twitter this week to say he was "starving right now."
Players receive their monthly stipends at the end of the month. Richardson is referencing Randy Ross, SMU's director of football operations, in his tweet.
On Aug. 1, recent NCAA rule changes will allow players to indulge in "unlimited snacks," which on most campuses, will mean food is available to athletes in some capacity at all hours of the day every day.
Most universities are still ironing out the details of the change. Kansas State AD John Currie said the change will add between $700,000 and $1 million to the Wildcats' athletic expenses.
Texas AD Steve Patterson said that number could balloon to as much as $2.5 million for the Longhorns.
