ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis University announced today that freshman guard Keith Carter has left the Billiken men’s basketball program due to personal reasons.
“When commitments are started, you don’t want to see things like this happen,” Crews said in an official statement sent out by the University. “Unfortunately this is something that is consistent and constant in college basketball. With that said, we wish Keith the best in his future plans.”
Carter dealt with a foot injury for most of the season, only seeing action in three of the team’s first 10 games. He averaged 3.0 points in those contests.
Coming out of high school, former SLU head coach Rick Majerus called Carter his biggest recruit since Andre Miller. As a senior at Proviso East High School outside of Chicago, the 6-foot guard earned first-team All-State plaudits from the Associated Press and Chicago Tribune and finished second in the Illinois Mr. Basketball 2012 voting only to one of the nation’s top recruits, Jabrari Parker.
Carter played 21 minutes in his final game against Eastern Illinois on Wednesday and scored six points.
