Texas second baseman Jurickson Profar will be limited when spring training begins because of right shoulder tendinitis.

Texas general manager Jon Daniels said Profar is good to go conditioning wise, but he won't be start throwing for another week. Daniels said it's possible Profar could be limited to designated hitter duties when the Rangers begin Cactus League games at the end of the month.

"He's good to go everything conditioning, baserunning, hitting," Daniels said. "But he is about another week down from throwing. Then we'll get him going. It may be at the start of the games he'll DH and hit and he may be slightly behind as far as getting into games and playing the field but not expected to last beyond that."

Daniels also said that left-hander Derek Holland would likely join the team in Surprise either Feb. 22 or Feb. 23. Holland is recovering from microfracture surgery on his left knee. The Rangers want Holland to be able to walk on his own before he goes to Arizona. He still occasionally needs crutches following his January surgery.

Right-hander Ben Rowen will also be limited when pitchers and catchers report Sunday because of right biceps tendinitis. Daniels said Rowen should be able to go at full speed early in camp.

The Rangers will also know the contract status of Mitch Moreland a week from now. Moreland'[s salary arbitration trial is slated for Feb. 19. Moreland is seeking $3.25 million and the Rangers offer is $2.025 million.

Daniels said the club also has remained in contact with free agent outfielder Nelson Cruz's representatives, but he still expects Cruz to sign elsewhere.

With or without Cruz the Rangers still need a right-handed bat and Daniels believes that will come from someone within the organization.
