SDSU Basketball allegations deemed unfounded by NCAA
SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego State athletic department released a statement on Tuesday morning announcing that the NCAA concluded its inquiry into the men's basketball program and found that the allegations made against the program, including possible infractions committed by the staff and improper benefits to prospects, were not substantiated.
The report of the allegations first came out publicly in September by CBS Sports.
"I am grateful to Dr. Elliot Hirshman (University president), Jim Sterk (athletic director) and Andy Humes (associate athletic director for compliance), and the NCAA staff for all of their assistance during this process," SDSU head coach Steve Fisher said in the release sent out on Tuesday. "I am pleased that this confirms what I and our administration have known all along, that as a staff, we take great pride in representing San Diego State University and the men's basketball program, and conducting this program with the highest integrity."
In its notification to SDSU, the NCAA stated in part, "Based on available information, the allegations were not substantiated, and it does not appear there is need for further inquiry."
The San Diego State men's basketball team is currently 9-6 on the season and 2-0 in Mountain West Conference play. They will host San Joset State on Wednesday night at home.
