Russ Smith active for Pelicans vs. Grizzlies
New Orleans Pelicans rookie Russ Smith could see his first NBA action of the regular season tonight in Memphis when New Orleans takes on the Grizzlies.
Veteran John Salmons is not with the team: he's with his wife who is expected to give birth sometime Tuesday.
General manager Dell Demps therefore activated Smith for tonight's clash with the Grizzlies.
So far, the Pelicans have spelled starting point guard Jrue Holiday with back up Austin Rivers.
Tonight's test against the Grizzlies' top rated scoring defense will be stiff: Memphis is holding opponents to 86.3 points per game. The Grizzlies are also off to their best start in franchise history at 3-0.
The last time Smith suited up for the Pelicans was in pre season. The 23-year-old Louisville product was taken by the 76ers in the second-round of the 2014 Draft, then traded to New Orleans for the rights to Pierre Jackson.
