Rod Marinelli: Ware has been 'great' in 4-3 transition'
As usual, DeMarcus Ware was a hot topic when Dallas Cowboys defensive line coach Rod Marinelli recently spoke with reporters following practice in Oxnard, Calif.
How dominant can Ware be in the new 4-3 scheme? The 64-year-old coach said the seven-time Pro Bowler will have plenty of opportunities to make plays, but the production he has in his first season as a defensive end will greatly depend on Ware's dedication and hard work.
"That's what the great players in this league do," Marinelli said. "To me, the most-talented players, the best players are over-achievers. They over-achieve. That's why they become special. A lot of guys in this league have a lot of talent that don't become special."
Marinelli has already gone on record during training camp, saying Ware is "special." On Monday, the former Detroit Lions head coach said Ware has the gifts but also the work ethic to continue being special.
"He's great," Marinelli said. "He's been great. Now it's just getting a toolbox worth of tools ready and add the basics and go because that's what he can do is go."
