Reynaldothewizard wins Dubai Golden Shaheen
American-bred Reynaldothewizard held off the fast-closing Balmont Mast to win the $2 million Dubai Golden Shaheen by a quarter of a length on Saturday.
The 7-year-old, ridden by Richard Mullen, was fastest out of the gate but fell back as Private Zone battled for the lead with several other horses. Private Zone is owned by a Chicago syndicate that includes former jockey Rene Douglas, who was paralyzed during a 2009 race at Arlington Park.
Coming down the stretch, Reynaldothewizard regained the lead and withstood a final charge from the Irish-bred Balmont Mast, ridden by John Murtagh. Krypton Factor, last year's winner, was third.
The Dubai Golden Shaheen is part of a nine-race $27.2 million World Cup card that includes the $10 million Dubai World Cup.
