Report: R.J. Umberger requests trade

According to the Columbus Dispatch, Blue Jackets winger R.J. Umberger has requested to be traded this summer.

As the Jackets made their playoff push late in the season, Umberger was consistently a healthy scratch and the Dispatch sites that this may be one of the reasons for the request.

Umberger's contract runs through the 2016-17 season and has a no-trade clause in his contract. According to the article, on June 15, the no-trade clause will become a limited clause allowing Umberger to provide 10 teams he doesn't want to be traded to, which leaves 19 teams to work a possible trade.

After being with the team for so many years, Umberger was frustrated to not get the opportunity to help the team down the stretch.

"I feel like I've been through a lot here with this team," Umberger said at the time. "These are the kind of games I've always dreamed about playing here, so to not be out there is hard to take."

An aging Umberger(32) might be tough for the Blue Jackets to move, especially with a hefty contract attached to his name.

Umberger led the Blue Jackets with eight power-play goals. In 74 games he scored 18 goals and had 16 assists.
