That $24 million pay day for Kobe Bryant may not be quite as impressive once Uncle Sam is done with him.
The injured Lakers star, as negotiated in his contract, was scheduled to receive a balloon
payment of $24,363,044 from the team on Friday. Bryant will make $30.5M total on the year.
But Bryant's takeaway may be closer to $11 million after the federal government and the state of California get done with the All-Star guard.
According to an ESPN report, Bryant could have as much as $9.6 million withheld by the federal government -- he's in that high tax bracket -- as well as an additional additional $3.2 million taken in state taxes. California has the highest state income tax in the nation.
