Report: Jones spent time in solitary
Disgraced U.S. sprinter Marion Jones feared for her life in a prison brawl — and for winning the punch-up she received 48 days of solitary confinement, The (Sydney) Daily Telegraph reported Wednesday.
The dethroned queen of the Sydney Olympics revealed the nasty episode in her new book, On The Right Track, written mostly from notes she sent to her husband Obadele Thompson during her six-month stay in a Fort Worth prison in 2008.
She was jailed for lying to a grand jury that she had never knowingly used banned drugs to help her win a single-Games record of five medals for athletics a decade ago.
As part of a plea bargain, she confessed to intentionally doping while up on charges related to a check fraud that landed her previous husband Tim Montgomery in jail for a much longer stretch.
Montgomery was also caught dealing heroin.
"I surely wish that I could go back and change certain things in my past, on the one hand, but then I wouldn't be who I am today, someone who I'm actually really proud of," Jones said.
The long spell in solitary was the low point for Jones, who lost all five Olympic medals.
