Dick Ebersol, the former long-time chairman of NBC Sports, has agreed to rejoin the network to serve as a senior adviser, The New York Times reported Tuesday.
Ebersol, who unexpectedly resigned in May, will play an advisory role for NBC's productions of Sunday Night Football and the 2012 London Olympics, network executives told the newspaper.
Ebersol played a critical role in bringing both events to NBC during his 20-plus years as its chairman.
The 64-year-old resigned in May after unsuccessful attempts to negotiate a new contract with Comcast, who had completed a takeover of NBCUniversal just a few months earlier.
Ebersol reportedly maintains a good relationship with his replacement, Mark Lazarus, who he brought in to NBC in 2010.
