Report: Durant, Westbrook pitch Thunder to Gasol in LA
Amid conflicting reports about the Oklahoma City Thunder's chances to land free-agent center Pau Gasol, one thing appears certain: They're making their best pitch to him.
Thunder stars Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook reportedly traveled to Los Angeles Wednesday to make a direct come-to-Oklahoma-City pitch to Gasol, according to ESPN's Marc Stein.
While the reigning NBA MVP and one of the league's top point guards visiting Gasol is sure to put the thought of a championship in the 34-year-old Spaniard's mind, the question remains if the longtime Laker will accept less money to possibly win a title with the Thunder. Oklahoma City reportedly views its run at Gasol as a "long shot," according to Yahoo! Sports' Marc J. Spears, but believes "it's worth a try."
At least one report has labeled the Thunder a frontrunner for Gasol. If the Thunder, who are among the favorites to win the Western Conference with their current roster, can bring in Gasol, who has won two titles with the Lakers, he could be the key to bringing a championship to Oklahoma City.
