Report: Dolphins to bring legendary QB Dan Marino back as adviser
The Miami Dolphins will reportedly hire legendary quarterback Dan Marino in a special adviser role to owner Stephen Ross and CEO Tom Garfinkel, according to NBC 6.
The news broke shortly after the team's 25-20 victory against the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday night in their home preseason opener, though no official word is expected for the time being until final details on the deal are worked out.
Marino has made recent appearances at the team's practice facility. He participated in a Dolphins alumni Ice Bucket Challenge on Aug. 14, as well as visiting practice last week in which he was spoke separately with head coach Joe Philbin, general manager Dennis Hickey, and injured center Mike Pouncey, who was working on solo drills as he continued his rehab.
The team has made no secret of their desire to bring Marino into the fold in the past, and his departure earlier this year as an analyst for CBS' pregame NFL show further facilitated talks.
Marino starred for the Dolphins from 1983 to 1999 and was also the team's vice president in 2004 before resigning after several weeks on the job.
