GREEN BAY, Wis. — Green Bay Packers running back Cedric Benson has his fair share of recent off-the-field incidents piling up around Wisconsin.
According to the Green Bay Press-Gazette, Benson's rottweilers have caused most of the issues. A police report cited by the newspaper states that the dogs attacked and bit 17 calves at a farm near Benson's home in Manitowoc County on Dec. 20. A veterinarian who examined the animals reportedly told police that some of the calves “may not make it through their injuries.”
Benson is due in court in February to answer those charges. According to the Press-Gazette, he also was charged with violating an ordinance that prohibits animals running at large. Benson was charged with that same violation again on Jan. 13.
Benson's other issue stems from his being ticketed for driving 41 mph above the speed limit in Manitowoc County on Jan. 1, according to the Press-Gazette. Benson also was charged with operating without a valid license, according to the newspaper.
Benson signed a one-year contract with the Packers in August 2012. The 30-year-old running back rushed for 248 yards and one touchdown through the first five games of the season before suffering a season-ending foot injury. Benson, who had rushed for more than 1,000 yards in three straight seasons before signing with the Packers, will be a free agent this offseason.
