Xavier lost its leading scorer to the NBA late last month. Could the Musketeers' head coach be the next out the door?

Ryan Gorcey of Scout.com site BearTerritory.net reported Thursday afternoon California has offered its vacant men's basketball coaching position to Chris Mack, who just finished his fifth season as head coach at Xavier.

The Musketeers are 111-57 during Mack's tenure, one that has seen them make four NCAA tournaments and become members of the new Big East.

A former Xavier player and two-year captain, Mack took over in 2009 after Sean Miller left for Arizona.

In May 2011, he signed a contract extension through 2018.

On March 28, All-Big East guard Semaj Christon announced he would skip his last two seasons of eligibility to make himself eligible for the NBA draft. He scored a team-high 17.0 points per game as Xavier went 21-13 last season.
