Shortstop Edgar Renteria, the reigning World Series MVP, has agreed to a one-year, $2.1 million contract with the Cincinnati Reds, a major-league source confirmed to FOXSports.com.

Renteria played in only 72 games during the regular season last year, before becoming a hero with his Series-clinching home run against Texas.

The Reds already have a young shortstop, Paul Janish, who batted .260 in 82 regular-season games.
