KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Tampa Bay reliever Brad Boxberger left with a strained muscle in his left side in his first game back from a stint on the disabled list Tuesday night.

Boxberger was led off the field by Rays trainer Joe Benze after throwing 16 pitches in the sixth inning. He stretched his side several times before being removed. Tampa Bay said he would be evaluated again after the game against the Royals.

Boxberger had adductor surgery in March and made six rehab assignments. He led the American League with 41 saves last season.

Dana Eveland replaced Boxberger, who gave up a two-run homer to Kendrys Morales.
