DUNEDIN, Fla. -- After dealing with a number of health issues involving their pitchers, the Tampa Bay Rays received good news Wednesday: Right-hander Alex Colome was released from the hospital after dealing with pneumonia.

Colome, 26, was hospitalized late last week shortly after reporting to Rays spring training in Port Charlotte, Florida. Visa issues in the Dominican Republic delayed his arrival to Charlotte Sports Park, and the bout with pneumonia had served as another setback for the player, who's expected to be a top contender to earn a rotation spot to begin the season.

Rays manager Kevin Cash said Colome will ease back into a baseball routine.

"I think he'll possibly come in," Cash said, "but I think it's at least two or three more days of very little or no activity."
