Raven Anderson leads NAU women past Loyola Marymount
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz.-- Senior Raven Anderson posted a near triple-double with 21 points, nine rebounds and nine assists as the Northern Arizona women's basketball team shot 57.6 percent in the second half to run away with a 82-64 victory over Loyola Marymount on Wednesday.
Anderson was one of four Lumberjacks (4-3) to score in double-figures. NAU trailed 34-32 at the half before taking control of the game.
"We just kept playing hard and we found an offense we liked," said nau head coach Sue Darling. "We kept grinding at it and finding ways to score out of it. We also did a better job on the boards in the second half and finishing our defense with great rebounding makes it a long night for our opponent. You have to stay disciplined to do that and we did that tonight."
Sophomore Rene Coggins hit a pair of 3-pointers to ignite a 14-0 second-half run that put NAU head 55-44. Loyola Marymount crept back within five points for the Lumberjacks stretched out their cushion and pulled away to avenge a 21-point loss to the lions last season in Los Angeles.
Coggins and Brittani Lusain each finished with 18 points for NAU, and Erikka Banks had 17 points and 11 rebounds. Lusain had eight assists, while Coggins made four 3-pointers and had a team-high three steals.
The Lumberjacks will next play on Dec. 13 in Eugene, Ore. against Oregon.
