Former Arizona State football player Brandon Rodd, voted the team's outstanding offensive lineman in 2007, died Friday in his home state of Hawaii at the age of 28. Rodd was recently diagnosed with a rare form of cancer.
Rodd, of Aiea, Hawaii, started 36 games during his ASU career, beginning as a guard and then becoming a fixture at left tackle. He was a four-time recipient of Pac-10 Conference All-Academic honors and a three-time honorable mention selection on the All-Pac-10 team.
He played in the East-West Shrine and Hula Bowl postseason all-star games following his senior season, during which he helped ASU's offense average 32.3 points per game.
After graduating from Arizona State University with a degree in business and education, Rodd was on the preseason rosters of the Oakland Raiders and Buffalo Bills for three seasons before retiring from football.
He is survived by his mother, Valeriz Lee, a brother, Jared, and two sisters, Aimee and Nicol.
