The Texas Rangers haven't been in contact with Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson since his team won the Super Bowl but are still hoping he shows up in spring training.
The Rangers acquired Wilson in the Rule 5 Draft last year and he has an open invitation to show up in Surprise whenever he wants.
"With everything they've accomplished and they've got going on I've tried to be respectful of his time," Texas general manager Jon Daniels said. "I have talked to his agent Mark Rogers and texted with him a little bit. If he does come, we'll set him up with a locker on the big-league side. I guess technically we'd have to invite him to big-league camp. He's got a minor-league camp."
While the Rangers would love for Wilson to talk with players in the organization, if he wants to get on the field Daniels said the club would be accommodating.
"It's really up to him how much time he wants to spend there," he said. "I think it might be just fun to see him go second base with Elvis (Andrus), (Adrian) Beltre, Prince (Fielder) and work out with those guys and get Wash (Ron Washington) out there. If he wants to get on the field, wants to hit, wants to do those things, great. If he doesn't that's fine too."
