Rangers have made offer to RHP Colby Lewis

Now that the business of the World Series is over the Texas Rangers can get on with the business of putting together their 2015 team.

That team could once again include right-hander Colby Lewis. The club has extended a contract offer to Lewis, who won 10 games in his first season after undergoing hip resurfacing surgery.

The club has a five-day window following the World Series to negotiate with its own free agents, which includes Lewis and left-hander Neal Cotts.

Lewis' agent Alan Nero has been busy with another one of his clients, free agent manager Joe Maddon.

Lewis, 35, said at the end of the season that his preference would be to remain with the Rangers. He led the club in starts (29) and innings pitched (170 1/3) innings and if he resigns with the club it would give the Rangers three veterans in the rotation in Lewis, Yu Darvish and Derek Holland.

The club is also putting together Jeff Banister's coaching staff and it looks like pitching coach Mike Maddux will once again be a part of it. Maddux, who interviewed for the managerial job, is under contract through Friday and it's possible that some or all of the coaching decisions could be announced Friday according to general manager Jon Daniels.

Maddux remains optimistic that a deal will get done.

"We're trying to find some common ground," Maddux said.

The only member of the current coaching staff under contract through next year is hitting coach Dave Magadan, and it looks like he'll return next season as well. Triple A manager Steve Buechele is expected to take over for Tim Bogar as the team's bench coach according to MLB.com.

• Texas shortstop Jurickson Profar had an MRI on his right shoulder Wednesday that Daniels said came back around 95 percent clean, which is as good as can be expected. He'll have another MRI in three weeks and could resume throwing in January.
