Rangers' Andrus won't play in field for another week

Texas shortstop Elvis Andrus, who has been dealing with soreness in his right elbow this spring, has been cleared to resume a throwing program and should be playing the field in games in a week.

Assistant general manager Thad Levine said Andrus will be on a seven day throwing program, which would mean he could be in the field for the final two exhibition games. Texas is slated to play Houston at the Alamodome March 28-29.
Andrus hasn't played in a game since Monday but he could serve as a designated hitter while he's on his throwing program.
Andrus normally plays winter ball in the offseason but didn't play following the 2013 season and has been bothered by his arm throughout spring training. He's made three errors in the 12 games he's played this spring.
