Rain postpones D-backs-Rockies series opener

Heavy rain at Coors Field on Monday postponed the Diamondbacks' series opener against the Rockies, and the teams have not yet determined when they will make up the missed game. They will decide between options in June and September.

The teams won't play a doubleheader in this series unless Tuesday night's game also is cancelled because of the weather, reports MLB.com's Steve Gilbert. According to the Weather Channel, rain is expected to remain in Denver until Tuesday evening.

With two more games in the series scheduled, the D-backs announced they will keep with their schedule of starting pitchers. Josh Collmenter will pitch in the next game, and minor leaguer Robbie Ray will be called up a day late for the finale. Ray is set to make his first start for the D-backs in place of Archie Bradley, who is on the 15-day disabled list with a sinus fracture.

A peek ahead in the schedules between the two teams gives us the potential options for make-up dates. The D-backs and Rockies have an off day on June 22, conveniently a day before the teams are set to play a three-game series at Arizona. In September, the teams share common three off days but could also add a doubleheader to games already scheduled between the two squads on Sept. 1 and 2 in Denver.
