Price's status uncertain after leaving game with injury
DETROIT -- It's still too early to tell whether David Price will be able to make his next start.
Price had to leave Friday night's game with a right hamstring injury with one out in the seventh inning.
The Royals had one out and runners on first and second when Alex Gordon got a base hit.
Home plate umpire Alan Porter grabbed Gordon's bat near home plate and tossed it back towards the screen.
Price, who ran to back up a possible throw home, stepped on the bat and came up limping.
Price tried a practice pitch with Tigers manager Brad Ausmus and the trainers watching, but came out of the game.
"I stepped on the bat with my heel, then it rolled toward the front of my foot," Price said. "Felt like it kind of hyperextended my leg a little bit."
Ausmus said he felt a little better when he heard the diagnosis.
"Any injury is concerning, especially when you're talking about the ace of your staff," Ausmus said. "But I think I'm less concerned now than I was when I was in the dugout while he was upstairs getting treated."
After the game, Price said he didn't feel anything in the leg but was not going to predict what his status might be.
"If you feel something go on in your body that you've never felt before, you're going to be concerned about it," Price said. "I guess we'll know a lot more tomorrow."
The Tigers have Monday off so Price's next start would be Thursday's day game against the Minnesota Twins.
