Phillips is NCAA Woman of the Year

Cross country runner Elizabeth Phillips has won the NCAA Woman of the Year Award.

Phillips is a seven-time All-American from Washington University in St. Louis who led the Division III school to the national championship last year. The biomedical engineering major graduated with a 4.0 GPA and was the valedictorian in the school of engineering.

She was chosen from a group of nine finalists Sunday night in Indianapolis.

The award is given to a student-athlete who distinguishes herself through academic achievement, excellence in athletics, community service and leadership.

Last year's winner was Stevens Tech swimmer Laura Barito.
