Pelicans' Davis sits out second straight game with injury

Sunday afternoon, the Pelicans star forward Anthony Davis sat out his second game in a row with a sprained left toe.

The third-year player has been battling the beginning of turf toe for some time, but the sprain happened at the end of the third quarter in a game at Detroit on January 14. Davis was going for a layup when he jammed his toe.

"He had a good workout today," Coach Monty Williams said. "But he still had some soreness. We feel like the best way to go about it is to rest him, re-evaluate and give him a chance to play tomorrow."

Monday, the Pelicans wrap up a long road trip versus the New York Knicks.  Williams says it's possible Davis will play, but there are no guarantees.

"That type of injury is a nagging one," Williams said. "You feel better, get out and run... and it comes back. AD plays so hard, I want to wait until he's closer to 100%."

New Orleans has also been without Jrue Holiday, who's still working through right ankle inflammation. Holiday had surgery to repair a stress fracture in his right tibia last season.
