Florida Panthers defenseman Ed Jovanovski received a $5,000 fine for elbowing Columbus Blue Jackets forward Corey Tropp, the National Hockey League  announced Sunday.

The Panthers captain received a major penalty and a game misconduct early during the first period in Florida's 3-2 loss on Saturday night.

Jovanovski and Tropp initially came together in a collision along the boards. After the skaters parted, Jovanovski delivered a high elbow to Tropp in the slot, then checked him to the ice.
