Packers snap counts: Allison, Davis, Janis get big opportunities

With both Randall Cobb and Ty Montgomery out, it meant more playing time for other Green Bay Packers wide receivers.

It also meant the Packers weren't going to run the ball very much (again). With Eddie Lacy and James Starks hurt, Green Bay used wide receivers Montgomery and Cobb in the backfield last week against Chicago, but still compiled just 23 carries as a team. With that duo out of the lineup, Green Bay ran it only 19 times (compared to 38 passes) in a loss at Atlanta, and six of those rushes were by quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Since Cobb and Montgomery also, you know, catch passes, and with Jared Abbrederis no longer on the team, it meant that someone else had to get playing time beyond Davante Adams and Jordy Nelson.

Jeff Janis got the brunt of the plays as the third wide receiver. He was in on 58 offensive snaps (94 percent), the same amount as Adams and easily his most playing time of the season. His previous high was 47 percent of the snaps against the Bears. Janis caught all four of his targets for 30 yards.

With no running game to speak of and needing more than three receivers, Trevor Davis and Geronimo Allison also got a big bump in playing time.

Davis, who had appeared in 43 snaps combined in the first six games, was in on 36 plays (58 percent). He caught three passes on four targets for 24 yards and a touchdown.

Allison was signed to the active roster after Abbrederis was placed on IR, and got 19 offensive snaps (31 percent) in his first game, catching two of four targets for 21 yards and a TD.

Some other notes from Saturday's snap counts:

-- The most snaps for a running back was by the fullback, Aaron Ripkowski, who got 32 (52 percent) snaps. Don Jackson had only 10 snaps and the now-departed Knile Davis had eight.

-- Safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix once again played every defensive snap. That's seven for seven games this season.

-- With all the snaps for wide receivers, tight ends only were in on 29 offensive snaps: 26 for Richard Rodgers and three for Justin Perillo.

-- Linebacker Kyler Fackrell was in on 30 percent of the defensive snaps for the first time since Week 3 against Detroit.

-- Datone Jones appeared in a season-low 37 percent of the defensive snaps.
