NEW YORK (AP) Baltimore pitcher Dennis Torres has been suspended for 50 games under baseball's minor league drug program following a second positive test for a ''drug of abuse.''
The 25-year-old right-hander's suspension was announced Friday by the commissioner's office.
There are nine categories of drugs of abuse under the minor league program. They include marijuana, cocaine, Ecstasy and opiates. Torres' drug was not disclosed.
A 28th-round draft pick in 2012, Torres was 2-0 with a 2.38 ERA this year in five starts and one relief appearance for Double-A Bowie of the Eastern League after going 3-1 with a 1.88 ERA in 12 relief appearances at Class A Frederick of the Carolina League.
There have been 70 suspensions this year under the minor league drug program, including 30 for drugs of abuse.
