DALLAS (AP) -- Dirk Nowitzki is the 23rd NBA player to score 23,000 career points.
The Dallas Mavericks star hit that mark with a free throw midway through the second quarter Friday night against Milwaukee.
Nowitzki is in his 14th NBA season, all with the Mavericks. He was playing in his 1,005th career game, and recently made his 8,000th career field goal.
Kobe Bryant and Kevin Garnett are the only active players with more points than Nowitzki. Next on the career list is Elgin Baylor's 23,149 points.
Nowitzki, the 2007 NBA MVP, was also the MVP of the NBA finals last season when Dallas won its first championship.
