DETROIT -- Usually a preseason hockey game doesn't leave a lasting impression, but Thursday's 3-2 Red Wings victory over the Chicago Blackhawks at Joe Louis Arena might be the exception.

The Red Wings line featuring rookies Tomas Nosek and Andrej Nestrasil and veteran Justin Abdelkader accounted for two of their goals and seemed to have chemistry that could give them a competent line this upcoming season.

"Nosek was real good, and Nestrasil is getting better," Wings coach Mike Babcock said. "I thought those two were really good.

"Nestie is a guy who at first struggled when he got here, but he's really gotten himself into shape. Nosey is a player, and Abby is an important player. But I don't like making predictions like that (if this is a future Wings line), but they're all good players."

It was apparent from the start that the line had jump, with Abdelkader providing the veteran leadership.

"For me, it's kind of crazy being considered one of the older guys now," Abdelkader said. "When I came in I had Draper and Malty and older guys helping me. These guys are nervous and excited, and a lot of emotions going through their bodies.

"I just try to keep them calm and let them know you're going to make mistakes out there, but let your skill come out, make plays and show the coaching staff what you've got."

Abdelkader has been impressed with the skill and skating ability of Nosek and Nestrasil. Abdelkader believes that both could be impact players for the Wings, as long as they "just go out and play."

"I felt good," Nosek said. "It was a really good game for us, most important that we won the game. I scored a goal, so I'm very happy.

"Andy (Nestrasil) is from my country (Czech Republic), so we understand each other, and Abby is a great player."

The game started 48 minutes late because the Blackhawks were delayed in Chicago due to a mechanical issue with their plane, and both teams were a bit sluggish at the start.

"I left my house this morning at 5:50, and we had a groundbreaking (for the Red Wings' new arena)," Babcock said. "It was a long day. I was kind of like everyone else, just waiting for the game to start. Glad we won, and let's go home now."
