The Dodgers have been without a pair of key contributors, CF Matt Kemp and LHP Ted Lilly, for a while, and though both are getting closer to rejoining the team there is still no specific timetable for their respective returns.
Kemp has been on the disabled list since May 31 with a left hamstring strain, the second one he has suffered this season. He will accompany the Dodgers to Oakland on their road trip this week but no date has been set for his return. Kemp was originally estimated to miss four weeks.
"If you start putting a timetable on it, these guys are goal-oriented. It's almost like it pushes the guy to do something before his body is ready to do it," said manager Don Mattingly. "I think it's better not to put those artificial deadlines on these guys. Let's find out when they're healthy and ready to go, and let's go."
Lilly has been on the disabled list since May 24 with left shoulder inflammation. He still hasn't thrown since going on the disabled list but has reported slight improvement in his shoulder in recent days. However, the Dodgers will be cautious with Lilly.
"We don't have a timetable. It's been one of those things in the past, when he's had this kind of thing going on he came back too early," said Mattingly. "They want him to be pain-free before he starts throwing again, and he's not there yet."
Once he starts throwing again, Lilly will need to build his arm strength back up and pitch in minor league rehab games before he is ready to rejoin the Dodgers, meaning he is likely at least a month away.
With Kemp and Lilly, the Dodgers don't know exactly when they will return. But one thing is certain: they won't be rushed back.

Hawksworth to start rehab assignment
  --RHP Blake Hawksworth is scheduled to pitch in a pair of minor league rehab games June 21 and 22 with high-A Rancho Cucamonga. Hawksworth has been rehabbing at the Dodgers' facility at Camelback Ranch in Arizona and has yet to pitch this season.
  --LHP Chris Capuano struck out a season-high 12 batters in eight innings Sunday against the White Sox. Capuano had a 5.87 ERA in his three previous June starts but said he made a mechanical adjustment to get his delivery on the right track.
  "I had a lot of trouble putting the ball where I want," Capuano said. "But my last couple bullpens, then today, felt much better with the location of my pitches."
  --SS Dee Gordon delivered an RBI single in the 10th inning Sunday for his second walk-off hit of the season. Since returning to the leadoff spot on June 3, Gordon is hitting .276 with a .354 on-base percentage and 10 runs scored in 14 games.
  --IF/OF Elian Herrera had three hits on Sunday against the White Sox, tying a career high. Herrera hit .353 (6-for-17) for the week, with three doubles and five walks in six games.
  --OF Tony Gwynn hit a triple in the 10th inning and scored the winning run against the White Sox on Sunday. The triple ended an 0-for-16 slump for Gwynn that featured eight strikeouts.
  --Manager Don Mattingly was ejected in the sixth inning by third base umpire Jerry Meals for arguing a run that was taken off the board for the Dodgers. Meals called C Matt Treanor out on appeal for running home too soon on a sacrifice fly. It was the fourth ejection of the season for Mattingly, who has been ejected on both Father's Day and Mother's Day this season. "If you're not 100 percent sure, I don't know how you can overturn the run," Mattingly said.

  MEDICAL WATCH:
  --CF Matt Kemp (strained left hamstring) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to May 14. He began a rehab assignment with Class AAA Albuquerque on May 27, and he was activated May 29. He re-injured the hamstring May 30 and left the game. He went back on the 15-day disabled list May 31, and he is expected to be out until at least late June. He had resumed taking batting practice as of mid-June. He will travel with the team on its upcoming road trip.
  --LHP Ted Lilly (left shoulder inflammation) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to May 24. An MRI showed no damage, so he won't need surgery. But he still can't throw. However, he has reported improvement in the shoulder.
  --RHP Blake Hawksworth (arthroscopic right elbow surgeries in January 2012 and February 2012) went on the 60-day disabled list March 27. He played in an intrasquad game at the Dodgers' Arizona facility on May 24. He is scheduled to pitch in a pair of minor league rehab games June 21 and 22 with high-A Rancho Cucamonga.
  --LHP Clayton Kershaw (plantar fasciitis) has been bothered by the foot irritation when he runs, but he said it doesn't affect him when he pitches.
  --RHP Javy Guerra (right knee inflammation) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to June 3. He underwent surgery June 5 and will be out until July.
  --INF Justin Sellers (bulging lower back disk) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to May 23. The problem was causing him numbness in his right leg. He received a second epidural injection in early June.
  --2B Mark Ellis (left leg surgery) went on the 15-day disabled list May 19. He had to have a second surgery May 21 to drain his swollen left leg, two days after having an emergency fasciotomy to relieve pressure in the leg. He was hitting off a tee in mid-June and took batting practice June 15. There is no timetable for his return.
  --RHP Matt Guerrier (right elbow tendinitis) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 19, and he was transferred to the 60-day DL on June 4. He threw a bullpen session May 16 and then had to rest for three days with elbow soreness. He had more elbow pain May 23, slowing his recovery again. He isn't expected to return until after the All-Star break.
  --RHP Rubby De La Rosa (Tommy John surgery in August 2011) went on the 60-day disabled list March 26.
