
NMSU falls behind early, loses to UTEP

EL PASO, Texas (AP) -- Christian Polk scored 25 points Tuesday night to lead UTEP past New Mexico State 73-56.
Polk was 8-for-13 from the field, 5-of-8 from 3-point range. Jeremy Williams had 18 points and six rebounds for the Miners (3-1) and Randy Culpepper added 15 points and seven assists.
UTEP led 40-31 at halftime and stretched the lead into double figures in the first minute of the second half on a Polk jumper. The Aggies got within seven on two occasions in the half but no closer than that.
Troy Gillenwater had 18 points and 14 rebounds for New Mexico State (2-4). Hernst Laroche scored 11 points. The Aggies led 9-4 in the first 5 minutes but fell behind for good at 15-13.
