NAU soccer beats Northern Colorado in 2OT

GREELEY, Colo. -- For 109 minutes, 30 seconds the Northern Arizona soccer team and Northern Colorado were scoreless with both teams looking at a 0-0 draw. However, the Lumberjacks refused to give up and with 30 seconds left on the clock, Haley Wingedner scored the game-winning goal to give NAU the 1-0 victory over Northern Colorado. Northern Arizona is now 7-4-2 this season and 3-1-1 in the Big Sky Conference.

Wingender received a pass from Demi Schmieder and Wingender was able to put the ball in the back of the net for her fifth game-winning goal of the season and second in conference play.

The Lumberjack's defense recorded their second straight shutout as NAU has not allowed a goal in their last 200 minutes of play. NAU's goalkeeper Natalie Gilbertson stepped up big today coming up with eight saves as Northern Colorado was able to get off 19 shots in the game.

This was the first weekend NAU has gone 2-0 in the Big Sky this season and now jump ahead of Northern Colorado in the standings.

Northern Arizona came close all day to scoring multiple goals on the road as Schmieder had a strike that hit the post in 57th minute and Cierra Gamble came close to scoring her second goal of the season but in the 61st minute Gamble's shot hit the crossbar as the score remained at 0-0. Although they were not able to score while firing off 19 shots in the game, the Lumberjacks continued pressing on offense and eventually cracked through the Bears' defense.
