Murray: Cowboys capable of Super Bowl
DeMarco Murray wants to be clear: He's not making a Super Bowl prediction.
But during a recent interview with a Dallas radio station, the Cowboys running back did say there's every reason to believe the team will be playing on the game's biggest stage in New Orleans in February.
"We have a great group of young guys, and we also have a great group of vets who I think they're still playing like they're 25, 26, 27 years old," Murray told Dallas station KESN (103.3-FM). "Look at (Jason) Witten, I'm around that guy every day, and he's one of the hardest-working guys. He's out there beating me in agility drills. I'm trying my hardest over and over and over to beat him, and I can't beat (him).
"I think we have a great group of guys, but at the same time we definitely feel that this year is going to be a great year for us and we don't see why we shouldn't be in the Super Bowl this year."
Murray's comments came after he was asked if the Cowboys' window to win a Super Bowl was closing, as owner Jerry Jones recently suggested. Murray then was asked to elaborate on the Super Bowl comment.
"I think we have the pieces," he told the radio station. "We have a great coaching staff, and that's what we are aiming for. We're aiming to not only make the playoffs and make a splash, but I think every NFL team is looking to win the Super Bowl."
Before his rookie season came to a halt because of a broken ankle in Week 14, Murray, 24, was on a seven-game stretch in which he carried the ball 134 times for 799 yards, averaging nearly 6 yards per carry. The Cowboys were 5-2 during that time.
