Mr. Olympia Phil Heath talks strength, motivation and more with Schaub and Callen

Heavyweights did collide this week on The Fighter & The Kid podcast as guest Phil Heath, the reigning Mr. Olympia, sat down with co-host Brendan Schaub to talk about discipline, strength, the UFC and a bunch more. Oh, and co-host Bryan Callen was also there for most of the ride sizing Heath up and working on a brand new confusing, but thrilling man-crush.

Schaub, no stranger to hard training, couldn't get over the discipline that top bodybuilders like Heath have maintain, year-round with their diet. "I think the most impressive thing about body builders is your discipline," he said.

"That's one thing, I couldn't do it. The chicken. You're just eating chicken all the time."

All that hard work and chicken have help make Heath into the 280 pound beast that he is, however. The record-breaking bodybuilder also revealed that sometimes when he needs an extra boost during hard training periods, some positive self-talk can make all the motivational difference in the world.

"When it's time to really get after it," he began.

"Every so often I'll look at myself in the mirror and go, 'you're a bad mother,' you know? Like, 'you're a bad dude, man, and you're gonna show the world who you are when the time is right.'"

No doubt that every fighter you've seen bounce to the Octagon while talkint to themselves are thinking similar thoughts. Schaub went on to let everyone know just how much real strength Heath has, despite bodybuilders' reputations for being all about looks.

"Phil is strong, I've seen him in the weight room," he insisted.

If insane dumbbell work is any indication of strength, the 5'9 Heath would indeed seem to have plenty to spare. "We have 170 pound dumbbels [and] I throw those around, no problem," he said.

"I've done, on video, 150 pound dumbbells in each hand, I think it was, like, twenty two reps, on an incline."

What. The. F, you all.

That's a lot of poundage.

Even so, Heath went on to talk about how UFC athletes impress him with their athleticism, and trade awe-filled gym stories about UFC heavyweight Todd Duffee, with Schaub.
