NEW YORK (AP) A minor league free agent who briefly played for Baltimore in 2010 has been suspended 100 games for using a performance-enhancing substance.

First baseman Rhyne Hughes was suspended Friday by the commissioner's office. He tested positive for exogenous testosterone, meaning it came from outside the body.

The 30-year-old Hughes hit .213 with four RBIs in 14 games for the Orioles four years ago.

Hughes played in Double-A for the New York Mets last year, hitting .278 with five homers and 30 RBIs in 53 games.

The suspension will become effective if he signs with a big league organization.

There have been 16 suspensions this year under the minor league program.
