Former Cleveland Indians broadcaster and longtime Major Leaguer Mike Hegan passed away on Christmas morning at the age of 71.
Hegan joined the Indians broadcast team in 1989. He last called a game in 2012.
A Cleveland native and second-generation Major Leaguer, Hegan graduated from St. Ignatius High School in 1960. His father, Jim, caught 14 seasons with the Indians from 1941-1957, missing three years due to World War II.
An all-star in 1969 with the Seattle Pilots, Mike Hegan won a World Series ring with the Oakland Athletics in 1972. He played 12 Major League seasons starting in 1964 with the Yankees and ending in 1977 with the Brewers.
Upon retirement he worked as a broadcaster with the Brewers for 12 years before joining the Indians.
