WASHINGTON (AP) Marine Corps Marathon organizers have adjusted the race's course and extended its start window after Metro officials refused to disrupt their transit repair schedule for special events.
Marathon Marketing Manager Marc Goldman said at a news conference Wednesday the Oct. 30 race will start as previously scheduled with the wheelchair racers at 7:40 a.m. and runners at 7:55 a.m., but the starting line will remain open an extra hour in case of transportation delays. The race attracts some 30,000 runners.
The starting line will move from the Mall to the Pentagon North parking lot.
The Washington Post (http://wapo.st/2c6QUho ) reports the changes came after Marine Brig. Gen. Thomas D. Weidley and marathon officials were unable to convince Metro General Manager Paul J. Wiedefeld to open two hours early for the race, as it has in years past.
