MOSCOW (AP) Metallurg Magnitogorsk won the Kontinental Hockey League's Gagarin Cup for the second time Tuesday, beating CSKA Moscow 3-1 in game seven of the finals series.
Evgeny Timkin finished with two goals for Metallurg, one of them the empty-netter which secured the win after some desperate defensive play to keep out CSKA, which recorded 37 shots to 16 for Metallurg.
Canadian Chris Lee, who has never played in the NHL but has built a career as a leading defenseman in Europe, scored Metallurg's second goal from inside the blue line in the second period, shortly after Maxim Mamin had scored for CSKA.
Metallurg's previous win came in 2014, while CSKA was KHL regular season champion for the second year in a row but last won a league title in 1989.
