DETROIT -- Detroit Lions receiver Calvin Johnson is inactive and will miss his second straight preseason game, Thursday night against the New England Patriots at Ford Field.

It’s believed to be for precautionary reasons. Johnson has been hampered by a bruised knee for more than a week.

Safety Louis Delmas, meanwhile, is active and could make his first preseason appearance. Delmas was held out for most of training camp to try to keep his often-injured knees healthy for the regular season.

Backup quarterback Shaun Hill won’t play because of an unconfirmed ailment. Coach Jim Schwartz said a few days ago that Hill, an 11-year NFL veteran, was simply getting some extra rest for his body this week.
