Meet the Braves: Julio Teheran
FOXSportsSouth.com invites you to meet the Braves as we continue a month-long look at our team, player-by-player. We'll revisit 2011 and project what 2012 might look like.
Julio Teheran
Position: Pitcher
Height: 6-2; Weight: 175
Bat/Throw: R/R
Hometown: Cartagena, Colombia
Experience: Rookie
2011 in review: Teheran was selected as the International League’s MVP after going 15-3 with a 2.55 ERA at Triple-A Gwinnett last season. He was particularly dominant before the all-star break, going 9-1 with a 1.79 ERA in the first half, compared to 6-2 with a 4.04 ERA in the second.
Career highlight: He earned his first major league victory in his third career start by giving up only one run and striking out three in 5 1/3 innings against the Mets on Sept. 8.
Outlook: Despite just turning 21 years old, Teheran is getting a long look for a spot in the rotation this spring, thanks to his strong fastball, change, curve and unflappable demeanor. He gave up seven runs in two innings in his first appearance, but management wasn’t shaken by the performance.
You should know: He’s rated the fourth-best prospect in baseball by MLB.com and the fifth-best by Baseball America for 2012.
